Menopause treatment and care

Menopause is the time in your life when you stop having periods because of hormonal changes. It is a natural and normal process that happens to everyone born with a uterus and ovaries. This usually happens in your late 40s or early 50s, but may happen earlier: it starts whenever your ovaries stop making estrogen and slow down making other hormones, like progesterone. Without these hormones, you stop getting your period and stop being able to get pregnant.

If you’re between 45-55 and you haven’t had your period in a year, you aren’t pregnant, and you don’t have a serious illness, you may be going through menopause.

Lifestyle changes & alternative options

There are only poor scientific evidences for alternative treatments, despite their relative popularity. The most widely used alternative remedies are taking soy isoflavones, phytoestrogens (coumestrol, femarelle, or black cohosh), acupuncture, or any kind of herbal or dietary supplements, but we cannot say they are definitely helpful when it comes to menopausal symptoms. On the other hand, avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and smoking, and taking up exercising regularly and introducing a balanced diet may help the body stay more energized and healthy in times when menopause puts a great strain on it.

A new phase in life

Menopause does not define a woman, it is nothing more than just the hormonal shift that marks a new chapter in her life, similarly to puberty.
